This is from Jane Cox, Columbiana UMC, Each of us had best take this into consideration. Thanks Jane for keeping us up to date. In the Birmingham News on Wednesday there was a note saying that beginning May 1, 2008, Delta will charge $25 for each 2nd checked bag. This is a fuel surcharge sort of thing. It will not be included in your ticket price, but will be paid at the airport at check in time. This is pretty substantial (team of 16 = $400) and teams flying Delta need to be aware of this. Can you get this posted since I do not seem able to post a message on the board ? Thanks much…….. Jane Cox

Jane,
If a team of 16 takes two bags down each and also bring two back each, that would be 2X25X16=$800 as I suspect that Delta will charge this "surcharge" both ways. Lets hope that Continental does not follow suit.
Thanks for the head's up.

I suppose that is true - however, we usually don't bring back quite as many as we take......I think United started this cahrge and now Delta has followed their lead.

Bud McKinney:
Each team leader should check and see if that applies to tickets bought prior to its implementation....i don't belive they can change a ticket contract after the ticket is purchased....bud

Delta has FINALLY updated their website to address this issue and if I am reading it correctly, there will be no charge for 2nd bags when traveling outside of the country (USA), with a few exceptions, Honduras not being one of the exceptions. All bags must be strictly within the size and weight limitations, but it appears that we will be able to carry 2 checked bags each with no penalty!! God is good to us - all the time.

Tom, I went to Delta airlines website, and if I read it correctly the $25 fee for the second bag is for travel within the United States. If you go to baggage on the website, then go to excess baggage, they don't charge a fee until the third bag for travel outside the United States. Sharon
