It is a beautiful Saturday morning and I have a couple of things on my heart that I want to share with you.
First, Mary and I spent most of yesterday afternoon at the Southeastern Optometry Association (SECO) meeting in Atlanta. Mary secured commitments for donations of a second tabletop auto-refractor, an electronic lens meter and a handheld ProView tonometer (to complement our current “puff-air” tonometer). In addition, Ray and Martha Crump are today going to SECO to pick up several new visual acuity charts that are being donated by one of the 200 vendors at the conference. We are humbled by the generosity of people who are willing to help AHMEN’s eye-care program and praise God for it.
Second, we would like to remind you of two eye-care training opportunities that are quickly coming upon us. One of these, the AHMEN Eye-care Work shop at Birmingham Southern, has already been announced and is posted on the message board under "Time to sign up for Vision '08 Honduras" in the "Vision Program" category of the message board (http://ybtgtxx.proboards54.com/index.cgi?board=vision&action=display&thread=1202952675).
The second training opportunity which is most important, is the training offered by the Kendall Optometry Ministry, Inc. in Louisville, Kentucky. As noted earlier we are going to begin using, on a trial basis, KOM’s computer assisted approach to matching eyeglass prescriptions with used eye glasses. We currently have three teams involved with this trial and will have at least two members from each of these teams taking training in Louisville on April 12th. This training is so good that anyone who is even remotely interested in mission eye-care should consider taking it. Here is challenge for anyone interested.
First, go to the website for the Kendall Optometry Ministry, Inc. (http://kendall-optometry-ministry.org/ ) and read Holland Kendall’s testimonial about how and why he became involved in this Ministry. Many of you will probably find considerable similarities between Holland’s intentions/callings and your own. Next, click on the link entitled "Company Brochure" and read this four page brochure that summarizes what the KOM can do to help Christian eye-care mission teams. This brief overview is arguably the best integrated mission-eye-care-aid program in the world. If any of this excites you, go to the training page (http://kendall-optometry-ministry.org/id34.htm) and select a training course that best suits your availability.
