Hey Everybody!!!!
So sorry I have not written in a while to keep you all informed. Mom started chemo on August 6. She had three days of treatment. She did great. She even went shopping after each treatment. We went a picked out a wig and a few hats in case she starts losing her hair soon. The doctors say that she may not lose that much but she wants to be prepared just in case. That was quite an adventure. It was lots of fun and I told her this will be the only time in her life that she can have funky style (because we all know that is NOT her). She agreed and picked out a CUTE style. She is really excited about the fact that she doesn't have to style it. HA!
The Saturday after treatment she was really tired but no nausea. PRAISE GOD! I can tell she is so nervous about the side effects. She has continued to be pretty exhausted, especially as the day goes on but she worked almost everyday last week until about 1. We went on Thursday for an appointment with the radiologist and she began radiation yesterday. She says that she feels fine and that there was nothing to it. She is so BRAVE! She will continue radiation 5 days a week for 6 weeks. I have a feeling that the going is about to get tough. Especially on the weeks that she also has chemo. She is as positive as always and is trying as much as possible to go on with daily life. I must say she is MUCH stronger than I am. We will be getting schedule together of people that are available to take her if she is not able to drive herself. If you are interested, please let me know and I will pass your name and number on to the one who is scheduling this for her.
I am beginning my internship next Tuesday at Elvin Hill in Columbiana. God sure had His hand in that. Not only did I go to school there but I also did a lab placement there. It is VERY unusual to have two placements in the same place, not to mention with the same teacher. I know all those first grade teachers will take care of me. Mom's best friends work there too, so I know I am going to be fine. Mom would hear nothing of it when I told her I wanted to wait and do my internship in the spring. As always, putting someone else first. I know I must get on with this semester and I should graduate a week after she finishes her treatment. I even told her she can wear a purple wig to graduation to support Montevallo if she wants! HA!
Lastly, I want to brag on the staff at Saint Vincents and the Bruno Cancer Center. They are so amazing and we are so blessed that God is alive and well there. Each doctor, nurse, and staff member truly love their patients and it shows. They know each person by name and greet everyone with a smile. I am so glad that Mom is there. GOD IS GOOD!!!!!
Hope everyone has a great day!
Love you all,
Allison
