from suemather March 2, 2009: I am interested in working with the UMW of Malawi, Africa, in developing items which could be produced for sale in the US, as a way of fundraising for their programs. Has anyone had experience in this? We have brought back things in our suitcases but have not delved into any more formal means of getting items here. Also interested in how to market and sell items. We brought back some tote bags that the women had made from beautiful African cloth to sell here. This time, I purchased the bags from the women at their cost (fabric and labor) and will send them the profits when the bags are sold. Any ideas about how to do this on a larger and more varied scale would be most helpful. response from ABunchofBells March 9, 2009 Teresa Rynkiewich and her husband were missionaries and now reside in Wilmore, KY. She has made a business of importing handcrafts made by women in developing countries. Tess' International Handicraft Shop is the name of her shop. This is now her mission - to help these women develop their businesses. She will be speaking at our church this weekend. You might want to contact her. I'm sure she could answer many questions for you. You can contact her thru her website: home.windstream.net/tessinternational/
