RE: Orphanage in Limon, Honduras
Sor Leonarda yesterday sent me (as Chairman of Leonarda's Home of Hope - LHOH) an email asking for approximately $1,800 in order to purchase food and to make the rent and electricity payments. She says she currently has insufficient funds and, though she has been to Tegucigalpa and requested funds, none are forthcoming.
I know there are groups that contribute for the orphanage on a regular basis. Not knowing who sends money and how frequently makes it difficult for LHOH to decide what is needed as I know she makes requests of many people and grrups when she is in need. Thus, a few people have told me they have already responded to Sor Leonarda's recent request.
LHOH has as its priority raising money for:
• Education - LHOH is currently sending Roseyli Cruz to school in La Ceiba to learn English and computer skills. In January, she will begin High School there. Beginning in August 2010 and in January 2011, two boys, Mario Sanchez Ramirez and Hector Sanchez, will need further education which LHOH hopes to fund.
• Medical Needs - LHOH paid transportation, food and lodging costs for Katia Banegas in September when she went to Coyoles for cleft pallet surgery. LHOH will again provide funds for necessary expenses when she goes in January for her second operation. As Leonarda finalizes appointments with physicians, LHOH will send Dery Lamber for an eye operation and will provide glasses for Thomas Castillo Sanchez.
• New Orphanage - LHOH is raising money to build the new orphanage. Thus far we have $ 10,067 for this purpose. It is hoped to begin site-work in the Spring.
• Operational Support - LHOH does provide some operational support money, but not on a monthly basis as the first three goals take most of the money we are currently raising.
If Sor Leonarda has approached you recently and you have sent money for food, rent and/or electricity, will you please let me know when and how much you sent so that we do not duplicate your response? If she has not asked you for money and you would like to contribute toward this or future needs, please send your check to
