We will pre-load the container on Saturday, March 17th in Arley - 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM.....At 1:00 or shortly after, we will leave and what is there is what goes on the container, because that is the manifest that we will send to Sandy.
Pre-load means you are to bring ALL of the boxes you plan to ship......It also means bring a manifest showing every single box. (Sample manifest attached)
Boxes must be sturdy and sealed very well with tape. Each box MUST have a label (sample attached) on it with a box #, brief description* and HOLD FOR YOUR TEAM and THE DATE OF YOUR ARRIVAL.......Preferably labels should be on paper that is the COLOR of your team. If they are not on colored paper, your boxes should be marked VERY CLEARLY with your color. If you are shipping something to Sandy or Eleanor, the label should be WHITE and clearly marked that it is for them.
* by brief description, I mean "Tylenol and cough syrup" or "bandages" or "eyeglasses" - NEVER put PAIN MEDICINE on a label.
The purpose of this shipment is to get the team's supplies to Honduras, and as such, anything else will go on at the end, if there is room........
We must mark on the manifest a "PROJECT NAME" for each box. Projects must be Cruzadas projects - Ciroboya is NOT a Cruzadas project. If you are shipping to Ciroboya, mark your project LIMON or LA CEIBA and do with it what you want when you get there. WE WILL NOT LOAD ANY BOXES MARKED FOR ANYTHING OTHER THAN A CRUZADAS PROJECT. Please help us help Sandy by not asking her to fabricate any paperwork - it is not worth the risk. This seems like a good time to say - OK to ship medicines with an expiration date of May 15th or so - anything else stays here if an expiration date before that can been seen - It is not worth the risk.
Okay to ship paper goods, etc for you team, but please do not ship bottled water. Bottled water is very easy to get in Honduras and it is heavy and takes up a lot of space on the container. Please do not send any tobacco products or drinking alcohol.
We CANNOT ship materials to missionaries in Honduras that are not working for Cruzadas. We had several pallets show up Christmas that we did not know about and since it was Christmas and it was mostly literature, Sandy agreed to accept it and make a gift of those items to those folks. Please check with one of us before you make a commitment of this sort.
The container will be unloaded in La Ceiba and sorted by COLOR, so it is VERY IMPORTANT that colors are clearly visible.......Even though all boxes will say SAVE FOR YOUR TEAM, you can work it out with Sandy when you need your stuff shipped to your mission site if you will not be going though La Ceiba to pick it up.
We will ship the actual container on Saturday, April 14th - need to be in Arley by 10:00 AM. The last container had representatives of very few teams - we would have been in BIG trouble if not for Lexie's kids from Beacon House. If you plan to put boxes on the container on Saturday, April 14th, you MUST have at least 2 able bodies there to help with the loading and the paperwork.
This system worked wonderfully at Christmas, and I do not foresee any problems with this one. Because we sent the manifest 3 weeks early to Sandy, she was able to get the shipment cleared before it even shipped from here - we were unloaded in record time with no hold ups in Customs.
Each team will pay $400 for their portion of the shipment. Please bring a check on March 17th, made out to AHMEN.......Our one glitch last time was that I did not send the check ahead of time to the shipper.
Bear in mind that you need to keep detailed records of the contents of your boxes for your own use.......Also, if we get a call or a question about a specific box, we will be able to answer that question without a whole lot of difficulty.
